Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The collection contains materials about Frank Hamburger, a witness to some of the Wright Brothers’ early flights. The collection covers aspects of Hamburger’s family and business, as well as about the Wright Brothers. Personal material includes photographs of Hamburger’s daughters, as well as images of the hardware shop he owned. Material related to the Wright Brothers includes a photo of Hamburger at the 1909 Wright Brothers celebration. There is a brief series of letters in which Hamburger was asked to testify that the Wrights flew a heavier-than-air machine before Frenchman Henry Farman. Finally, there is a set of newspaper clippings, several of which pertain to Hamburger’s relationship with the Wright family, and another which describes the story of Charlotte “Lottie” Jones, a washerwoman who worked for the Wrights.
