Matthew C. Kirkpatrick was the first Dayton policeman to go to the FBI for training. The collection houses photographs of him and J. Edgar Hoover as well as correspondence from Hoover. The collection also contains manuals and books related to police work in Ohio and the city of Dayton. Additionally, Kirkpatrick also kept a detailed scrapbook of his career, which he dedicated to his wife, which houses articles, notes, and correspondence relating to his long career of service to Dayton and the police department.
