Scope and Content
The collection represents the artistic depiction of early aeronautics through color lithographs, including air balloons, monoplanes, biplanes, and air show promotion. The lithographs depict a Louis Godard balloon (circa 1866), Camille Dartois balloon (circa 1880), Boulard Voltaire (circa 1884), Sauvetage de l'aerostier by A.L. Crespin (circa 1900), Atterissage perilleux by A.L. Crespin (circa 1900), Coupe Gordon Bennett winner Curtiss (1909), Grande Semaine d'aviation de Caen (1910), Wright Brothers biplane above Paris (1909), Grande Semaine d'aviation de la Champagne Reims (1909), Bleriot (1909), Aeroplane by Ferdinand Fernel (circa 1908), and Wilbur Wright at Le Mans (1908). Also included is a mounted silver gelatin photograph of Alberto Santos-Dumont's Demoiselle in flight (1909).
