W.P. Salisbury papers [oversize award in location 74 file 11], 1922, 1925 - 1926 undated
Scope and Content
The Local History Ephemera Collection is a group of small unrelated items. There are nine series in this collection. The collection consists mainly of paper, newsletters, and some photos.
Series I, Central M.E. Church - Springfield, Ohio, consists of eight folders dealing with the church and people related to the church. One of the larger folders is letters to J.S. Showalter. There is also a folder of Sunday School Mission Letters from India, Mexico, and China from 1883-1884.
Series II, Political Ideologies, consists of four folders of Republican focused newsletters and pamphlets from the 1960s. There is a folder of Barry Goldwater election materials. One of the newsletters from the Barry Goldwater folder is in the oversize folder, location 74, file 11.
Series III, Clara Wiesenborn Papers, consists of letters to Clara Wiesenborn while she served in the Ohio Congress. The majority of the letters are from 1971-1974. There are a few from 1958-1970.
Series IV, Governmental Ephemera, consists of City of Dayton seals, two court cases from the State of Ohio, and an inquest into the death of a man in Clermont County.
Series V, Publications, consists of mixed publication. This is the largest group with nine folders. In this group are two folders containing adult content, the folder containing the poem "Speakeasy" and the folder containing comic books. Most of the folders in this group do not relate directly to this area of Ohio. However, there is a poem in this group about Oakwood.
Series VI, Family Papers, consists of four families. The folders are small with only two or three papers for each and do not offer much in family relations.
Series VII, Business/Companies, consists of a variety of items related to business at the end of the nineteenth century. There is a folder of early 20th century business cards from various cities, most from outside of this area. There are also some Shelby County Insurance Documents, along with National Safety Bulletins from the Miami Conservancy District in this group. There are two unidentified ledgers and one identified cashbook. The ledger in Box 4, File 2 has a page with an account for Pullman Palace Cars in Chicago. The cashbook and the ledger are in a special box fitted for them.
Series VIII, Music, contains two folders. The first folder has music programs from the Miami Valley featuring Howard Forrer Peirce. The October 28, 1898, program features "A Corn Song" by Paul Laurence Dunbar. The second folder has a letter about Chinese music.
Series IX, Photos, consist of a variety of unidentified pictures. The first folder is miscellaneous photographs. There is a group of photos showing an early 20th century train/car wreck, people, hunting/fishing, house building, and landscapes. The second folder contains larger folders of people and a funeral from Savannah, Ga. The third folder has unidentified pictures from the building of the five dams by the Miami Conservancy District.
