Abstract
Established in 1849, the German Roman Catholic St. Joseph Orphan Society of Dayton, Ohio, was a subscription society that placed the children of deceased or indigent members in Catholic foster homes. The institution changed its mission, bylaws, and name numerous times but continued as a child-caring institution run by a Board of Trustees and in Dayton, Ohio, later known as the St. Joseph Children's Treatment Center.
