The collection covers William C. Wallace, a Merchant Marine and newspaper editor from Coshocton, OH; as well as his wife, Jean E. (Laird) Wallace, and daughter Mary L. (Wallace) Baker. It consists of correspondence, photographs, and the genealogy of the Wallace family in Coshocton, Ohio. They are relatives of the Wallace family of Medway, OH (MS-92 in the Special Collections and Archives).

Clair Wilbur Welty Papers

Scope and Contents

The scrapbook contains newspaper clippings and photographs chronicling Joyce Whitmore’s life as a student pilot in the Civilian Pilot Training Program at the College of Idaho in Caldwell. Contents include newspaper articles she wrote about her experience, photographs of her classmates and instructors, and photographs of aircraft and airports she encountered throughout the western United States. Whitmore was also a distant cousin of the Wright Brothers.

Sir Frank Whittle Papers

Abstract Sir Frank Whittle invented the jet propulsion engine, proposing the use of the gas turbine for jet propulsion in 1928. He patented his idea in 1930. The first jet aircraft flew in 1941.
