James Keen Photographic Collection

Abstract James Keen was a newspaper photographer for a number of newspapers throughout the country, including the Dayton Journal-Herald. This collection consists of approximately 9,300 black and white negatives and black and white photographs. These photographs were taken from 1937 to 1946 in and around the Miami Valley, including Dayton, Wright and Patterson Fields and other nearby Ohio areas. Neal Loving, recognized as one of the "African American Pioneers in Aviation", was a renowned airplane designer and an aerospace engineer at the Flight Dynamics Laboratory, Wright Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB), Dayton, Ohio. The collection contains papers, photographs, and blueprints of Loving's designs, including his WR-1 midget racer named "Loving's Love".

Dr. Hans von Ohain Papers

Abstract

Dr. Hans von Ohain was the co-inventor of the first successful jet engine. After World War II, he moved to Dayton, Ohio where he was a research scientist at the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. His papers contain patents, correspondence, speeches, technical reports, scientific articles, awards, and photographs. Some documents are in German and French, but the majority of the collection is in English.

Collection consists of 1 scrapbook assembled by H. Allan Sullivan. The materials contained therein are related to Sullivan's work with the U.S. Army Air Corps and the U.S. Air Force Materiel Command, his work at McCook Field, and as the editor of the Slipstream aviation magazine. The Scrapbook contains many commendations and merit awards. Also included are clippings and photographs. Scrapbook was purchased at an estate auction by Christine Stadium of Dayton, OH.
