Historical Note

The Public History program at Wright State University began in 1974 as “Plan C” in the History Department Graduate Program. The program was designed for graduate students who are primarily interested in careers in archival administration or museum management. It provides students with both theoretical and practical training in these areas, combining a traditional American History curriculum with courses taught by Public History professionals working in the field. The program has grown to be one of the oldest public history programs in the country, and graduates of the program have gone on to make contributions to the field in thousands of institutions around the globe.
