This series includes many original photographic prints made by the Wrights from their own negatives shortly after the images were taken. The Wrights exposed at least 303 gelatin dry plate negatives in the course of documenting their process of invention. All of their glass plate negatives were given to the Library of Congress in 1949, but many of their original prints remained with the Estate of Orville Wright. While at Simms Station in 1910, the Wright Brothers flew the Wright Model A Flyer (Wright 1907 machine) from May 10 to May 20. From May 21 to October 14, they flew the Wright Model B Flyer. The transition from the Wright Model A Flyer (1907-type machine) was gradual. Orville and Wilbur Wright both experimented with placement of the horizontal control surfaces in 1909. In 1910 they applied a fixed horizontal stabilizer to the tail of the Model A. It was then made moveable, working in...
