The Wrights exposed at least 303 gelatin dry plate negatives in the course of documenting their process of invention. Orville had come to fulfill a contract signed at Pau with the August Scherl Company, newspaper publishers, for public exhibition flights in Berlin, and with the Flugmaschine Wright Gesellschaft, or German Wright Flying Machine Company, for demonstration and training flights for student pilot Captain Paul Englehard.
