Collection consists of one oversize pencil portrait drawing of Lt. Bennett C. Simmons, a B-17 Bombardier-Navigator, Army Air Corps, WWII. The drawing was created by renowned portrait artist William Van Dresser at Boca Raton Field (Florida) in 1944.

Biographical / Historical

Bennett Clark Simmons was born July 1, 1916, in San Angelo, Texas, to B. C. Simmons and Margaret Mae Jordan. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in October 1940 and reenlisted in November 1941. He served as a B-17 bombardier-navigator during WWII and also taught bombardier classes to new recruits. Following WWII, he went back to school on his G.I. Bill and became a medical doctor. He practiced medicine in Long Beach, California, for many years prior to his death on March 24, 1977.
