Centerville Garden Club Records
Scope and Content
The Centerville Garden Club Records consist of two report covers containing information on awards the club applied for and seventeen scrapbooks. The scrapbooks contain well-labeled photographs, club histories, roster of member and officers, booklets published by the club, and club constitutions and policies. Many of the booklets cannot be opened because the edges of the front covers adhered to the adhesive scrapbook pages as well as the back covers.
Series I, Awards (1974), consists of awards documentation not contained within the scrapbooks. These materials include paper work submitted by the club in November of 1974. The competitions entered were the Luna Sears Conservation Education Award, which they won, and the Ethel Fisher Conservation Award. See Series II for many certificates and ribbons contained within the scrapbooks and unable to be removed without damage to the award.
Series II, Scrapbooks (1930-2006), consists of scrapbooks, all with “magnetic” or adhesive pages. In 1993 the scrapbooks became known as the Historian’s Scrapbook. The materials consist of photographs, newspaper clippings, awards, pamphlets, etc.
One scrapbook contains yearbooks from 1930-1979. Each yearbook includes an outline of events held that year, list of events held that year, and a roster of member and committee members. Beginning in 1980, the scrapbooks included the yearbook from the year or years the scrapbook covered. There is no scrapbook for 1985, but five photographs are included at the end of the 1984 scrapbook.
