Scope and Contents

Dr. William R. Love was a practicing Dermatologist in the Dayton-area from 1942 until his retirement in 1977. His collection of papers includes 26 photographs of skin disease and two articles he either authored or co-authored with Dr. George W. Binkley in 1938 and 1943. Researchers should be aware that the photographs of the skin diseases are very graphic.

Biographical / Historical

Dr. William R. Love was born in 1906 in Bronson, Kansas. He graduated from the University of Kansas Medical School in 1936. He completed his internship at Charity Hospital St.Vincent’s and his residency in dermatology Cleveland Metropolitan Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio from 1935 to 1938. In October 1938, he received a fellowship to the Mayo Clinic where he stayed untiol December 1942. He then moved to Dayton, Ohio and established a dermatology practice. He was a consultant at several Dayton-area hospitals including Good Samaritan Hospital, Kettering Memorial Hospital, the Dayton State Mental Hospital, and the Veterans Administration Hospital. He was also a clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology for the Ohio State University School of Medicine and an Instructor in Dermatology at the Miami Valley Hospital School of Nursing. He was a member of the American Medical Society, the Ohio State Medical Association, and the Montgomery County Medical Society. He retired in March 1977.

Abstract

He moved to Dayton, Ohio and established a dermatology practice. He was a consultant for several Dayton-area hospitals and was a clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology for the Ohio State University School of Medicine and an Instructor in Dermatology at the Miami Valley Hospital School of Nursing. The collection consists of 26 photographs of skin diseases and two articles he either authored or co-authored on skin diseases that appeared in the Archives of Dermatology and Syphilology.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

The collection was donated to the Wright State School of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, and the Fordham Health Sciences Library, by Dr. Love in March 1977.

Separated Materials

Books included with the donation were cataloged and added to the Fordham Health Sciences Library book collection (now part of the Dunbar Library).

Medical instruments received with the collection were inventoried and added to the Special Collections and Archives medical instruments collection.
