Scope and Content

Art Krieger's personal collection holds an expansive array of materials from around the world. It is largely dominated by Series I, his documents on the numerous aircrafts and companies. The collection also has profiles of various pilots, publications, aviation films, oversized materials and miscellaneous documents about Art Krieger, among other things.

Series I, Builders, Corporations and Companies, contains the profiles for builders, various aircraft companies and the aircrafts they produced from all over the world. There is a great deal of information about the United States Air Force and Navy. The series has been alphabetized with folders at the beginning of each letter for single papers for individual planes and another for the profiles of builders and other people.

Series II, Pilots, contains information about many male and female pilots that flew from the start of flight to roughly to the 1990s. There is extensive information about Frank Hawks and Al Williams. Like Series I, this series is alphabetized with folders for each letter for individual pilot profiles.

Series III, Aviation Publications and Related Materials, consists of maintenance manuals, various newsletters, and numerous society memberships for Art Krieger that are related to some of the newsletters.

Series IV, Miscellaneous, consists of personal documents from Art Krieger, like insurance and memorial invitations. This series also contains maps from various parts of the United States and some abroad. It also contains brochures from museums and air shows as well as price lists for aircrafts.

Series V, Film and Microfiche, contains videocassette tapes and 16mm film about aviation flight and air shows. There are a few 8mm films as well. One box contains 250 sheets of unknown microfiche.

Series VI, Oversized Material, consists of large booklets and informational magazines about various aircraft companies.

Biography of Adolph (Art) Krieger

Adolph, commonly called Art, Krieger was born February 20, 1921. He was a resident of Chicago, Illinois and a collector of all things aviation, from calendar pictures to the smallest piece of an article mentioning an aircraft of any kind from all over the world. He was a WWII S.Sgt. Army Veteran 854th Bomb Squadron and flew 31 missions over Germany. He died June 19, 2002.

Abstract

The Art Krieger Aviation Collection is the personal collection of Adolph (Art) Krieger. This collection contains materials from all over the world on nearly every kind of plane and building company, pilots, handbooks and manuals along with various other items about aviation. Emphasis is on the 1940s through the late 1980s.

Acquisition Information

This collection was donated to the Wright State Special Collections and Archives by Art Krieger, in March 1991.
