Scope and Content

The collection consists of records on guild activities, and is divided into seven series. It was compiled and stored by various members of the guild.

Series I, Monthly Newsletters, contain the guild's newsletter titled "The Guild Trumpetings." The bulk of the newsletter date between 1989-2006. The guild newsletters contain upcoming events, guild news, and articles pertaining to organ music or church life.

Series II, Church music workshop programs, over the period spanning from 1964-2006. The programs include small localized events as well as national American Guild of Organists events.

Series III, Treasurers' Reports, detail the financial records of the Chapter between 1985-2000. This series contains the financial records of the guild.

Series IV, Meeting Minutes, contains reports from 1981-1999 that include guild event planning, and new business.

Series V, Correspondence, includes letters between guild members, and correspondence letters from the American Guild of Organists Council. The bulk of the dates are between 1972-1990 and contain correspondence ranging from surveys to personal letters.

Series VI, Dayton Chapter Membership Directories, includes the phone numbers and guild positions of all members. Dates range from 1956-2004 but the bulk of the dates are between 1970-1993.

Series VII, Chapter Service Manuals, Applications, Sheet Music, News Clippings, and Photos of Guild events. This series contains manuals relating to responsibilities of the various positions in the guild, and applications to join the guild or apply for a particular position. This series also contains undated news clippings and sheet music used by members of the guild.

Series VIII, Scrapbooks, details the guild's activities from 1951-1989. These Scrapbooks include members directories, news print articles relating to the guild events, monthly newsletters, correspondence papers, and administrative records. This series consists of four scrapbooks, which contain the collected records that may not be found in the other series.

History of American Guild of Organists, Dayton Chapter Records

The Dayton Chapter of the American Guild of Organists was established in 1951. The Guild is active in and around the Dayton area, publishes its own newsletter, and participates in workshops and programs sponsored by the American Guild of Organists.

Acquisition Information

The American Guild of Organists, Dayton Chapter Records were donated by Yun Kim on January 14, 2008. Yun Kim is the acting Chapter Treasurer.

Processing Information

The original order of this collection consisted of four scrapbooks and seven binders. Early guild records were kept in scrapbook format, containing news clippings, programs, letters, and records. by the 1990s materials relating to the guild were kept in three ring binders, separated by document type. Additional records from the guild will be added as they are donated to the collection.
