History of Belmont High School Alumni

In the early 1950s, rapid population growth in Dayton created the need for additional schools to accommodate the increasing numbers of students. The construction of Belmont High School commenced in 1953 as part of Dayton Public Schools to meet this need. Plans were drawn up and land purchased for the site in 1953, with the laying of the building cornerstone occurring in 1955.

The school hosted its first classes in September 1956, with the formal dedication of the school occurring on October 31, 1956. No seniors attended the school during the first two years of its operation, so the first senior class did not graduate from the school until 1958. The Belmont Bison Alumni Association was created by class of 1959 member Donald Clouse and officially incorporated in 1995.
