Scope and Contents

The collection consists of two Parkmoor Drive-In Restaurant newsletters, two newspaper clippings, and eleven photographs of the restaurant. The Jul-Aug 1966 Parkmoor newsletter is a special 20th Anniversary Issue. This newsletter, along with one of the newspaper clippings, provides a history of the restaurant. The collection spans the period 1953 to 1988.

Biographical / Historical

The first Parkmoor Drive-In Restaurant opened in a rebuilt open-air root beer stand 1947 on Linden Avenue in Dayton, Ohio. It was owned and operated by Wallace and Virginia Monschke. In 1950, a second Parkmoor Restaurant opened on Salem Avenue. A third Parkmoor opened in Fairborn, Ohio in 1952. Overall, between 1946 and 1961, the Monschke’s opened 16 Parkmoor Drive-In Restaurants in the Dayton area. The restaurant was famous for its “Dixie Golden Fried Chicken.” However, the popularity of the restaurant waned during the 1970s, with the last Parkmoor closed in the 1980s.
