Abstract

The collection consists of one photographic album that depicts Gunermann's early flying career, parachuting, flight school and barnstorming. It provides valuable insight on the aviation community in pre-Nazi and early Nazi Germany. Most of the photographs in the collection are identified and dated (1918-1936).

Scope and Contents

This collection consists of three pilot’s flight logs containing the flight information of Frederick L. Haines, a lifelong resident of Miamisburg. Haines started flying in a WACO in 1932 and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Haines logged most of his hours from airports around the Miami Valley, including East Dayton Airport, Vandalia, and Springfield.

Abstract

Frank Hamburger witnessed the Wright Brothers' first flight in Dayton. Collection contains several photographs of Hamburger as well as newspaper clippings recounting his involvement with the Wrights.

Abstract

This collection consists of one log book containing the flight information of John J. Hamilton in his WACO F2 Continental. All flights took off from East Dayton Airport between December, 1931 and September, 1932. In addition to the log book is one newspaper clipping detailing the granting of a pilot's license to Mr. Hamilton.

Abstract

Bergen Hardesty (1915-1994) was a trained draughtsman and as a hobby built realistic model airplanes. The Bergen Hardesty Aviation Collection contains extensive research and accurate drawings on a large variety of aircraft focused on World War I and II military aircraft. The collection also contains many aircraft photographs, along with negatives, blueprints, correspondence, histories of WW I aviation units, newspaper clippings, and photograph albums.

Abstract

Consists of 11 letters and postcards written by Bishop Milton Wright, father of the Wright Brothers, to his nephew Charles Harris who lived in Iowa. Letters date from 1901 thru 1916 and cover a variety of subjects including Orville and Wilbur's flying experiments, travels to Europe, family matters, and a description of Wilbur's death and funeral in 1912.

Abstract Harris was a World War I flyer and test pilot at McCook Field in Dayton during the early 1920s. He later became an executive with Pan American Airlines, American Overseas Airlines, and Northwest Airlines, as well as holding the rank of Colonel in the Army Air Transport Command during World War II. Abstract

The papers consist of glass plate negatives, lantern slides, and photographs of pictures taken by Anthony Philpott editor of the Boston Globe. Of particular interest in these files are copies of newspaper clippings from 1910 and 1911 about the meets, as well as pictures of Wilbur Wright, Boston Mayor John F. Fitzgerald, President William H. Taft, Claude Grahame-White, Glenn Curtiss, and other distinguished people from that time period.

Scope and Contents The collection comprises the original research, reports, court cases, and correspondence documenting A. Howard Hasbrook’s career in crash injury research. It includes the studies he conducted at Cornell University, as well as research and investigations carried out for various other organizations. Hasbrook endeavored to make both airplane and automobile crashes less lethal. His analysis led him to become an early advocate of seat belts for both airplanes and automobiles, and he encouraged...
