The records within the IAM Lodge 225 collection are divided into 6 groupings. Series I, Minutes of Administrative Bodies, has the minute books of Lodge 225, 1938 1939 and 1950 1970, copies of the minutes of the Executive Council of the IAM Grand Lodge, 1958 1964, minutes of the Ohio State Council of Machinists, 1942 1944 and 1958, and minutes of the Financial Secretaries Seminar of the Ohio State Council of Machinists, 1962 1964.

Series II, Membership lists, bylaws and Constitutions, contains a roll book for Lodge 225 which includes name, age, birthplace and occupation of Lodge 225 members for the years 1918 1919, and names and initiation dates for the years 1919 1950. The series also has bylaws and constitutions for Lodge 225 and its various affiliates.

Financial records included in Series III are the Treasurer's cash books for Lodge 225 and District 13, various dues records, bank books, insurance policies, strike fund disbursements and monthly records of receipts and disbursements. The span dates for the financial records range from 1916 through 1964.

Series IV, Reports and Bulletins, contains reports from the Railway Employees Department of AF of L on jurisdictional disputes between IAM and other unions, official circulars from the Grand Lodge in Washington, D.C. and Department of Labor bulletins concerning defense planning, labor legislation and public contracts. Reports emanating from Lodge 225 include the business agent's weekly report, a day by day record of his activities for the years 1940 1941, and Reports to the Membership of Lodge 225 for the years 1960 1964. The span dates for the entire series are 1928 to 1964.

Series V, Negotiations and Agreements, contains records of company union business, negotiations, agreements, individual shop committee minutes, job classifications, Day rates, company union correspondence, strike information, NLRB rulings, grievances and information about organizing conflicts with other unions. This series contains much useful material on the day to day dealings between the union and various companies in the Dayton area whose workers were represented by Lodge 225. It is arranged alphabetically by company and then chronologically within the folders. Span dates are 1937 through 1974.

Series VI has general correspondence from various national IAM officials, the correspondence files of Lodge 225 officers, some correspondence arranged by topic, and correspondence from Lodge 225 affiliates such as IAM District Lodge 142 in Kansas City, the Machinists Non Partisan League, Ohio AFL CIO, Dayton Miami AFL CIO and the IAM Grand Lodge in Washington, D.C.

The correspondence in this series ranges over such topics as WW II defense work and mobilization of workers, strikes, local and national political issues relevant to labor, the IAM's break and reconciliation with the AFL, conflicts with CIO unions prior to the merger, jurisdictional disputes, and various IAM business and political matters.

The span dates for the correspondence are 1937 1965, and the arrangement within the files is chronological.
