Reagan, Ronald, 1958 - 1989, bulk: 1980 - 1984

The Ronald Reagan VIP File includes black and white photographs (and a few color photographs) from visits by President Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan to Dayton and other cities in Ohio and Kentucky.

There are visits to Dayton, Cincinnati, Middletown, Columbus, Sidney, Troy, Ottawa, and Perrysburg, Ohio, as well as Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

Notable individuals photographed with President Reagan include: James A. Rhodes, Ohio governor; Congressman Buz Lukens; George Voinovich, Cleveland mayor at the time; Congressman Bob McEwen; Yitzhak Shamir, Israeli Prime Minister; and Mikhail Gorbachev*. (Other notables are likely present in the photos but are not readily identified.)

The most voluminous files are for Reagan's campaign visits to the Miami Valley in October 1984, which included a speech to a large crowd at Dayton Courthouse Courthouse Square, as well as a train trip through other Ohio cities, including Sidney, Troy, Ottawa, and Perrysburg.

Other items of particular interest include: a 1958 photograph with Judy Ann Fuller, a Xenia girl; a press conference with Governor James A. Rhodes in Cincinnati in 1967; and an original color photograph with Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir in Cincinnati in 1989, captured by DDN photographer Charlie Steinbrunner.

(*The Mikhail Gorbachev photographs are original color glossy prints of the signing of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty at the White House in December 1987, but they bear no photographer stamp and may be from a news service. However, it has been demonstrated in the past that Dayton newspaper photographers occasionally attended events in Washington, D.C., so it's possible they are DDN photos.)
