Appraisal

As Special Collections and Archives has a very strong tie to the history and legacy of the Wright Brothers, many items in this subseries were retained which would have normally been discarded as out of scope, namely, items produced by news agencies or other organizations besides the Dayton Daily News, Journal, Herald, or Journal-Herald. Consequently, users should pay special attention to the original source/creator of the photograph when making citations and seeking copyright permissions.

Furthermore, for items which were obvious copies (sometimes in multiplicity) of photographs for which Special Collections and Archives holds an original (e.g., 1903 first flight photos) or a much better or more authentic copy - these duplicate items were not retained in MS-458.
