Subseries I-A: Personality Files Large (PL)

 Sub-Series

Scope and Contents

Subseries I-A: Personality Large (PL), is the largest subseries and consists of 9” x 12” files. This subseries includes both photographs and clippings. Files for prominent individuals, both local and non-local, tend to be found in the PL files, because the files are physically larger and can accommodate both larger, as well as a greater number of, items per file. However, this largest subseries is also where most of the “ordinary” people can be found also.

Arrangement

Within this subseries, photographs and clippings are each in their own envelopes, but both types of materials are interfiled in the same boxes (i.e., both photographs and clippings for John Smith would be in the same box). Files are arranged alphabetically by last name, first name.

Appraisal

Since 2022, this subseries has been undergoing weeding (reapprsaial) to remove photographs created by external news agencies, such as the Associated Press, United Press International, World Wide News, etc. As a result, the extent (linear feet) for this subseries is expected to decrease in the future.

Processing Information

This group is the same as the previous “Personality A-Z” (1A) subseries, which was created by merging the Dayton Daily News and the Journal Herald personality files together. The newspaper had begun this process before the collection was acquired by Wright State, and Wright State finished the integration. People files were also pulled from the Pamphlet Files, as well as the JH Numeric “L” (letter size) files, and integrated into this subseries. (If a personality file has a 4-6 digit number on it, this should be ignored, as it is from an earlier filing convention used in one of the predecessor components of this subseries, JH Numeric “L” or letter-size files. These numbers were observed throughout the existing Personality A-Z subseries, indicating that the newspaper had been in the habit of refiling JH Numeric people files into the Personality Files over the years already.)
