Scope and Contents
While at Simms Station in 1910, the Wright Brothers flew the Wright Model A Flyer (Wright 1907 machine) from May 10 to May 20. From May 21 to October 14, they flew the Wright Model B Flyer. The transition from the Wright Model A Flyer (1907-type machine) was gradual. Orville and Wilbur Wright both experimented with placement of the horizontal control surfaces in 1909. In 1910 they applied a fixed horizontal stabilizer to the tail of the Model A. It was then made moveable, working in conjunction with the front horizontal rudder. Later, the front horizontal rudder was removed and wheels attached to the skids. Eventually the front ends of the skids were flattened and shortened, thus creating the Wright Model B Flyer.
