Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

This collection consists of organizational materials such as dissenting opinions, charter drafts, event flyers, and brand-related files on the organization. There are research studies, commissioned by them and external to the organization, that Dayton Together used. The collection also includes newspaper clippings regarding the organization and city consolidation.

Series I, Organizational Papers, contains charter materials, presentations, handouts, guides, and frequently asked questions used by the organization. There are several charter drafts, guidelines, and documents that helped support the charter. Noteworthy documents in this series are the different models and consolidation options OneDayton considered for their charter. Presentations and handouts in this series are supporting documents for why the organization wanted to present this charter regarding government consolidation. Other documents are press releases and correspondence which gauge the attitudes of the community and the organization. Records in this series date from 2012 to 2017.

Series II, Research and Studies, contains studies and maps pertaining to consolidating governments. Many studies and maps seem to have been requested by OneDayton from counties and colleges. Other studies are copies of older metropolitan research papers that the organization used to form their argument. An influential study on the consolidation on Louisville particularly seemed to be useful in OneDayton’s model. Records in this series date from 2012 to 2017.

Series III, Newspaper Articles, contains newspaper articles saved by the organization. The clippings range in topics from OneDayton to articles about metropolitan trends in the Cincinnati-Dayton area. There are also clippings regarding the Louisville consolidation. Notable articles include obstacles and opponents of the OneDayton charter. The actual files in this series date from 2013 to 2017, though some files include articles and informational content from as early as 1960. Filenames in the series reflect the date of the informational content (e.g., “20110417” indicates a news article from 2011-04-17 or April 17, 2011).
