Marie Sturwold was born on January 8, 1897 in Cincinnati, OH. She started gardening as a child, but her passion for gardening fully took form when she married John Aull in 1923. They lived in a property north of Dayton that would one day become Aullwood Garden MetroPark and Aullwood Audubon Center.
